For years the triangular block where Broadway, Boerum Street and Lorimer Street meet sat almost entirely empty: five lots, one of them holding an old one-story factory building. Plans came and went. A 27-story tower filed with the City in 2016 was never approved, and a later hotel and co-living scheme stalled before Joyland took the site over, leaving the block fenced and idle.
In 2022 the site was acquired and cleared, and heavy equipment arrived that summer. What rose is a two-building community joined by an elevated bridge and organized around three courtyards. Lorimer House, the larger of the pair, delivered 270 rental residences in 2023 and turned one of Williamsburg's most visible dead corners into a neighborhood anchor.
