Few Williamsburg sites have had a more dramatic stop-and-start history. A three-story commercial building here was cut down in 2010 and demolished in 2011. A 26-story hotel-and-condominium tower was then planned for the lot next to the landmarked Williamsburgh Savings Bank, but that project stalled in 2020, before Joyland took the site over. For years the corner sat fenced off beneath the Williamsburg Bridge ramps.
The site changed hands in January 2026 and the plan was reimagined. In October 2026 the City approved a new 12-story building with 99 rental residences, community-facility space and ground-floor commercial space. Completion is targeted for winter 2028, finally giving the bridgehead the building it has been waiting for.
